Metlicic: My Decision to Leave Is not Final

Text

Finals are played to win, said the Croatian handball team’s captain who wants to win the gold medal at the World Handball Championship.

With a victory over Poland, the Croatian national handball team secured another medal, the fifth in the past six years. Will this medal be gold will be known after Croatia play France in the finals of the World Handball Championship. Nevertheless, Croatia has won another trophy, which is an award for part of the team that began their journey in Portugal in 2003.

Petar Metlicic also belongs in that part of the team. He is the captain of the team who played the key role in the match against Poland. Although he was not at the height of his form in the first several games of the championships, his playing grew better and better and culminated in important games where he was one of the best players on the court. Petar is almost 33 years old and is close to leaving the team, but it is not yet certain when this will happen.

- Sometimes it is difficult to find motive to play. I can still handle it physically. The decision (to leave) is not final – Metlicic said after the game against Poland.

Although he is thinking of leaving, the captain says he will give it his best in the game against the French.

- I do not want to stop at this. We should forget the last game with the French. Finals are played to win – Petar said, stressing that he is always there if the team needs help.

The two definitely best teams will be playing in the finals, of which only one has remained undefeated and we hope it will stay that way.
