OAKLAND, January 21, 2010 (AFP) - The New Jersey Nets, on pace to finish as the worst team in NBA history, face another bit of dubious history if they should lose Friday at Golden State.
At 3-38 after the first half of the NBA season, the Nets could break the all-time worst full-season showing in league history, the 9-73 showing of the 1972-1973 Philadelphia 76ers.
That 76ers squad also started off 3-38 but won the next game to launch a relatively strong 6-35 second half of the season.
A Nets loss would give them the worst 42-game start in league history and stretch their current losing skid to 10 games.
New Jersey, a loser in 19 of 20 starts since December 8, began that skid with a 105-89 home loss to Golden State.
At 90.2 points a game, the Nets are the lowest-scoring club in the NBA.
