Pao And Barca Go On, Unicaja Surprises

Text

The Greek Panathinaikos and the Spanish Barcelona have positioned themselves in the quarter finals of the Euroleague.

Barcelona celebrated their win as guests against the Polish Prokrom 77-59 without any problems, and two matches before the end have secured their position in the next round. Barcelona opened the game well and had an advantage of 13 points, but Prokrom managed to bring that down to only 6. That was all from the Polish team because the guests switched to a higher gear and finished the match. Croatia’s Roko Leni Ukic during 22 minutes managed 5 points from four jumps.

Efes Pilsen to stay in the competition needed to beat the Greek Panathinaikos, but they did not succeed. The Greeks leave Istanbul with a 79-65 win, which is a lot more convincing than what was seen on the court. The Turks held their ground well until the final quarter when a few long shots take the match away from them. Niksa Prkacin played for the defeated team for 19 minutes and used that time to get 5 points with three jumps.

It was also interesting in Trevis where Unicaja came to a very important victory against Benetton 79-76. The Spanish team entered the fourth quarter with a ten point lead, but they gambled that away and the hosts took the lead with only 3 minutes left. A few moments of carelessness cost them the win. Unicaja won and is now only a step away from the next round.

In their last match, Dinamo Moscow just managed to better Aris 71-69 in a match that was harder than expected. The Russians who were absolute favorites struggled to break the resistance of the tough Greeks, and managed to do so at the very end of the game. Fotsis was the best with 28 points and 10 jumps.
