PHOTO: Croatian Footballer Hrvoje Custic Dies

Young Zadar did not survive after hitting his head against a concrete wall during a match on Saturday.

Croatian Zadar FC football player Hrvoje Custic passed away in Zadar`s hospital, where he has been fighting for his life for several days now after a serious head injury. This was confirmed by his father in a brief telephone call.

Hrvoje was injured on Saturday in a match against Cibalia, hitting his head against the concrete wall along the pitch. He was then transported to the Zadar General Hospital where he underwent surgery.

On Wednesday, Hrvoje had a high temperature, indication  an infection, while this morning his state was critical. Doctors of the ICU fought for his life, but the situation today was very difficult and their struggle ended tragically.

Zadar FC has confirmed that he was in a koma and on life support, but nobody from the hospital would give any statements.

The club`s associate Rene Sinovcic told us this morning that the young footballer was in a critical situation

Hrvoje Custic`s mother arrived to the hospital in tears and a state of shock, barely making it to the surgery ward.
