In the third round of the second part of the European League, Zagreb’s Cibona basketball club was defeated by Fenerbahce with a result of 65:60. In the first part, Cibona’s defence seemed excellent, but in the second it looked just as its offence at the beginning: catastrophic.
Cibona successfully opened the first quarter and took the lead only from the third offence when Anderson stole the ball for a result of 2:0. The next four baskets were also the work of Anderson who seemed to be the only one in the mood for offence. The Fenerbahce team managed to score only after three and a half minutes of the game. The quarter ended with Cibona leading 12:9.
In the second quarter, neither of the teams used their first attacks, but after Mirsad’s three-point score, Fenerbahce levelled the score. But Cibona’s Calloway and Vukusic restored the lead to five points. Cibona continued playing well, reaching a difference of nine baskets (21:12). Fenerbahce’s players had trouble with Cibona’s defence, but in the end they managed to reduce the difference to five baskets.
Cibona started well in the third quarter, but the Turks used a weakness and came to a lead of 32:31. Omer Onan increased the Turks’ advantage to 34:31, but Vukusic scored a three-pointer, restoring the advantage.
In the last quarter, Fenerbahce managed to take the lead with a series of four scores, but Cibona’s Prkacin equalised the score in the following offence. In the next minutes, Cibona tried to catch up with the Turks. In the end, Fenerbahce won with a result of 65:55.
