PhotoThe German skier was more successful last year in fast disciplines, therefore everyone was surprised with her slalom results.
The new Snow Queen Maria Riesch was surprised as she won the Snow Queen Trophy in Mount Sljeme on Sunday, especially because she did better in fast disciplines last season. Maria did not feel well at the starting line and she lacked self-confidence.
- I never expected to win the slalom race, let alone three times in a row – Maria said.
She also confessed that she started the second run calculating, because it was important for her to win points, but she did not want to fall out of the track, which is what happened to her good friend Lindsey Vonn. Winning the Snow Queen Trophy, Reisch took the lead for the first time in the total rankings, but this increased her expectations as well.
Nicole Gius on pole after two years
Italian Nicole Gius finished second, who climbed the pole after two years.
- I didn`t feel well in the first run and made a few mistakes, but I knew I can do better in the second run – Nicole said.
Sarka Zahrobska was third, with this being an important success for her, after winning in Aspen.
- I am very happy because of it. I feel well in Zagreb and look forward to next year – Sarka said, who would like to see herself on more poles in the future.
Lindsey Vonn and Maria Riesch surprised this year with their runs in fast disciplines, seeing how their main discipline is downhill.
- It is a surprise that Maria and Lindsey were good in slalom this season. Lindsey was much better this year and I can see the fight for the Crystal Globe would be intense – Zahrobska commented.
The atmosphere in Zagreb is special every year and the skiers are happy to return to Mount Sljeme, because they are always welcomed by many people.
- The race keeps getting better and better and it is definitely the best of the season – Sarka said.
The new Snow Queen had the same impression:
- The atmosphere is excellent in Sljeme. When the best skier was named, I felt like a queen because of the crown I received. It truly felt special – Maria Riesch said.
