CROATIA 2009
JANUARY 18 2009 16:05h
The refreshed Serbian team managed to beat Egypt, and coach Cvetkovic is seeking a win against Denmark.
The second day of the World Handball Championship was marked by the favourites that convincingly beat their opponents. Spain was the most convincing who beat Kuwait by 30 goals. The high win has gained Spain first position in group B, the group that Croatia is playing in.
When we are already speaking about favourites, we will add Poland, who beat Algeria by 17 goals.
Norway supported by Porec public
It can be said that Norway’s national team had a training match, because they convincingly beat Saudi Arabia in Porec. Norway was supported by Porec’s public during the whole match, which Norway rewarded by removing all doubt as to the winner as early as the first half, which ended with a nine point lead, and deservingly ended the match with 39:23.
Hungary and Sweden were both convincing, scoring the same number of goals (41) in matches against Australia and Cuba. The only difference was that in those matches, Australia scored 17 points, whilst Cuba only scored 14.
The strong team from Denmark easily beat Brazil 40:27, which is normal when Denmark faces an easier opponent.
France were better than Romania by ten goals, even though they only had a three point lead at the end of the first half. France did not allow any surprises and celebrated with a final result of 31:21.
Referees helped Germany a lot
Not all the matches ended with convincing wins. The closest match was between Germany and Russia, which ended without a winner with the result 26:26. The Germans went to half time with a slight 15:14 lead, but did not end up beating Russia, who left their souls in the court. The match will be remembered with the referee helping the German team a lot.
The match between Macedonia and Tunis ended up good for the Tunisians. Macedonia led at the end of the first half when the result was 14:13, and that the match ended with the result 24:25 for Tunis.
Drama occurred in Osijek where Slovakia and Argentina met. The South American team did not manage to beat the European one. The Argentineans missed out on two points, and will have a hard time getting into the second round, because they have to beat Hungary and Romania, which will not be an easy task.
Serbia beats Egypt and announced combat against Denmark
Serbia had an easier job and was better than Egypt, who are being led by Irfan Smajlagic. The Egyptians played well in the first half, which ended with an equal score. However, the refreshed Serbian team pressed forward in the second half, and took points winning with an eight goal advantage, 30:22.
“We held to our tactics, to bring the opponent to fall in the second half.
We had lots of help from both goalkeepers” said the coach of the Serbian national team, Jovic Cvetkovic.
Tomorrow Serbia is expecting a tough test against Denmark, but Cvetkovic promised that he will not give up easily, and announced a win.
“We respect Denmark as an opponent. That is an excellent generation, but we came to win” said Cvetkovic.
