ZAGREB, CROATIA - At the mention of the best Croatian skier Ivica Kostelic, a few thousand of Zagreb’s citizens gathered at Josip Jelacic Square started cheering with delight. When Ivica pulled out number 5 as a starting number, the crowed cheered again. Many were happy because Ivica pulled out a good number.
“It is important that he is not first due to nervousness, and everything else will be fine. Tomorrow we will go up there to cheer” said 27 year old Tomislav from Samobor who is looking forward to the beans that will be served there, and who will bring 5 pairs of socks to Sljeme.
Zagreb’s mayor Milan Bandic also earned cheers from the crowd, who repeated his statement from two days ago with a smile, that he is happy that a large number of fans gathered at the square, and that he is expecting even more tomorrow at Sljeme.
“Unfortunately I am not going to Sljeme, but this is why I have come to the square with my friends to see the skiers, and maybe I will hop over to the square again to watch the race” said Marija from Zagreb, who watched the male skiers pull out starting numbers for the race on Sljeme.
Leading up to the concert by Boney M, Zagreb’s main square filled up even more.
