Prostitute Handball Scandal – It`s Ridiculous!

After the German media reported news that handball referee Lars Ejby Pedersen told TV2 Network that they were offered prostitutes as graft at one of the dinners in Zagreb during the World Handball Championship this January, executive vice president of the Croatian Handball Association Zoran Gobac reacted to the news.

- I find this ridiculous. There were a couple of girls as dates, but I can`t believe they would stoop so low. I am surprised that they are reporting this now. Where have they been the whole time and their competent authorities were present at these dinners as well, they could have reported this to them . Gobac said, adding that three dinners and one bowling party were organised and they might be precise and say when this happened.

- It was clear that they were prostitutes – Pedersen said, adding that such a thing was only possible in the Balkans.

Results of the referees` decisions during the final match out in 15 days

Such reaction of the referees which came two months too late might be induced with the fact that the Croatian Handball Association will announce results of the analysis of the Danish referees during the final match of the championship, which includes Pedersen, in 15 days.

- The two of them will have to elaborate in court why they made such calls and who ordered them to do it – Gobac said, reminding that Croatia has had problems with Danish handball referees ever since the final match in Portugal, six years ago.

Before the final match of the World Handball Championship, the Croatian Handball Association requested the International Handball Federation to appoint other referees, which they asked publically, without any fear.

- The fact is that we publically asked he IHF to appoint other referees for the final. They should be afraid of the results of the experts` analysis and not be dealing with this. The next step would be to say that we gave them money. After all, their calls state enough of them – Gobac said.

The prostitute scandal is yet another in line, after several Champions League scandals surfaced up in the past few months. German Kiel is supposedly involved in match rigging and the match between Chehovski Medvedi and Valladolid.
