The conflict emerged when a group of Lazio fans started to insult Mexes and his countryman Jeremy Menez.
The defender of the French national football team, and the Italian first league team Roma, Philippe Mexes, ended up in hospital after going to a night club called Gilda in Rome. There he had a conflict with a Lazio fan who is a boxer, reports the Rome radio station Rete Sport.
The conflict broke out when a group of Lazio fans started insulting Mexes and his countryman Jeremy Menez. The argument soon turned into a fight in which Mexes received the worst part. The Frenchman was offered medical assistance and was released home.
The incident occurred upon returning home from the match between Reggina and Roma which ended with a result of 2:2. Roma is currently in fifth position on the Serie A ladder with 37 points, 13 less than the leaders Inter.
