Scotlands Taylor Confirmed As General Secretary

Text

David Taylor, chief executive of the Scottish FA, will become UEFA's new general secretary on June 1.

David Taylor, chief executive of the Scottish FA, will become UEFA's new general secretary on June 1, European soccer's governing body has confirmed.

He will replace Lars-Christer Olsson as the highest administrative officer in UEFA following Olsson's departure as chief executive in the wake of Michel Platini's election as president.

In other decisions, it was agreed the UEFA executive committee will be increased from 13 to 15 members, plus the president, in 2009.

The committee also agreed on the voting procedure to decide which candidate will host the 2012 European championship.

Poland-Ukraine, Croatia-Hungary and Italy are the three candidates attempting to host the tournament.

The committee decided that Franco Carraro of Italy and Grigoryi Surkis of Ukraine would not be eligible to vote as their countries are bidding and so a straight majority of the 12 voting members would secure the right to stage the tournament.

If there is no absolute majority in the first ballot, the bidder with the least votes will be dropped and a second ballot will be held.

The decision on who will host Euro 2012 will be made at the executive committee's next meeting in Cardiff on April 17-18.
