Seventh Seed Medina Garrigues Knocked Out Of Paris

Kanepi broke decisively in the 11th game of the decider to wrap up victory after a 148-minute battle in the Pierre de Coubertin stadium.

Seventh seed Anabel Medina Garrigues was knocked out of the first round of the Paris Open when she lost 3-6 6-2 6-4 to Estonia's Kaia Kanepi on Monday.

Kanepi broke decisively in the 11th game of the decider to wrap up victory after a 148-minute battle in the Pierre de Coubertin stadium.

Her next opponent will be either France's Emilie Loit or Nicole Vaidisova of the Czech Republic.

In Monday's other first-round match, China's Li Na beat last year's runner-up Agnes Szavay of Hungary 7-6 6-2 to set up a potential second-round clash with second seed Jelena Jankovic of Serbia.

World number one and Australian Open champion Serena Williams of the United States, who landed in Paris on Monday, is scheduled to start her tournament with a first-round match against Czech Iveta Benesova on Wednesday.
