NEW YORK, March 28 (UPI) -- New York Knicks forward Amare Stoudemire will miss as much as four weeks of play because of a back injury, the NBA team said Wednesday.

Stoudemire left Sunday's game with tightening in his back and was diagnosed Monday as having a bulging disk. The Knicks said Wednesday Stoudemire would undergo "non-surgical treatment.

"He will be out approx 2-4 weeks," a message on the team Twitter account said.

The NBA regular season ends in about four weeks.

Stoudemire is averaging 17.6 points a game this season, which is second highest on the team. The leading New York scorer is Carmelo Anthony, who is dealing with a groin injury. Jeremy Lin, the No. 3 scorer on the Knicks, has a knee injury.

The Knicks are 25-25 this season and are in the eighth playoff spot in the NBA Eastern Conference.
