The third day of PBZ Zagreb Indoors is underway and the best duels only follow.
Day at the Dom Sportova sports hall began at 11:30 hours with two doubles duels. First tournament holders and one of the best world doubles Erlich and Ram in two tie-breaks overtook Tipsarevic and Simon. Linstedt and Thomas Johansson overcame tournament’s great favourites Knowel and Aspelin in an excellent duel.
Pass into the second round of the singles competition was obtained by last year`s finalist Stefan Koubek and Michael Llodra.
The hall is fillig up nicely and by the time of the Ivan Ljubicic ad Roko Karnausic game it will have been crowded. Less interesting duels are being played in hall number two, and momentarily in the doubles duel Mahut and Bennetau have a small advantage over the Kohlmann/Waske couple.
It is interesting how players come out to a song by their choice, therefore Ivan will run out with Queen`s “We will rock you”, while Roko Karanusic chose “A sta da radim” by Azra.
Roko chose to serve and with slight problems reaches the first game. There are around 1,500 spectators in the hall and emotions are divided. With a little luck Ivan has two connected break points in the third game and uses the first one right away. Spectators can witness excellent moves, while Roko took to the slice game which Ivan has problems with. In case Ivan`s serve percentage drops, Roko stands a chance. Two serves and a break point for Karanusic, but Ivan saves it with an excellent serve. A new break point after a beautiful point on the net. Roko tried to score directly, but failed. Ivan won the game for leadership 3-1 in the end with many problems. Roko showed why he was considered to be a great talent with a few excellent shots. Karanusic has big problems with Ljubo`s serve and cannot seriously threaten the first racquet of our representation. Let us say, in the meantime the German combination Kohlmann and Waske won the first set against Mahut and Bennetau. With the score 4-3 after 23 minutes Ivan will serve with new balls. Roko pressured Ivan`s serve , but did not succeed in taking it away, and will have to serve in order to stay in the set. Lubicic took the first set after some 30 minutes with 6-4.
