Toluca Snatch Win, Necaxa Finish With Eight Men

Text

America, where Jesus Ramirez replaced Ramon Diaz as coach one week ago, stayed bottom of Group Two with six points.

Holders Toluca continued their excellent run in the Clausura championship by winning 2-1 at Guadalajara while struggling Necaxa finished with eight men in a 3-0 defeat at Monterrey.

Necaxa's three red cards were among 10 handed out in Wednesday night's nine games.

Toluca, who lead Group Three with 14 points, remained unbeaten in six games after beating Mexico's most popular club at the Jalisco.

Carlos Esquivel scored an 82nd-minute winner for the Red Devils, who had Paraguay defender Paulo da Silva sent off for a second bookable offence three minutes later.

Necaxa remained winless after a dismal evening which began when Jose Gonzalez was dismissed in the 44th minute. German Villa and Luis Garcia were also sent off in the last quarter of an hour.

Aldo de Nigris scored twice for Monterrey and Chile striker Humberto Suazo added the third.

America, who spent around $20 million on reinforcements in the mid-season break, twice came from behind to draw 2-2 at home to Ricardo La Volpe's Atlas.

Mexico captain Pavel Pardo netted the second equaliser in the 87th minute and tempers flared in the last minute when America's Juan Carlos Silva and Atlas's Bruno Marioni, who had earlier scored, were sent off for fighting.
