Valencia Forced to Sell Players Due to Crisis

Text

Valencia is in a hard situation due to falling income, whilst expenses are growing, which is why they need to sell players.

The leadership of the Spanish football team Valencia is considering selling a number of players in order to cover the large financial debts that the club has with Mestalle.

At this moment, the “bats” owe 240 million euros to the bank “Bancaja”, and the total debt of the club is 450 million euros. The leaders of the club did not want to reveal the deadline to return the debts, but the executive director of the club Javier Gomez was a lot more direct.

“The club is in a very delicate situation. It has to control spending, grow income and sell assets” said Gomez.

Villa and Silva most valuable assets

The financially most valuable players in Valencia’s locker-room are the national representatives David Villa and David Silva, whose market value is around 50 million euros.

Due to the hard financial situation that the club is in, they salaries for the players is a few months late, and the construction work on the new stadium has been stopped. The Spanish media claim that the club owes the players a total of 15 million euros.

According to the latest study that was carried out by professor Jose Maria Gay, Spanish football clubs have been living above their financial possibilities for years, and the total debt of the first league teams is 2.78 billion euros.
