VIDEO: Goals Not Even Your Gran Could Take

Croatia and England still remember how David Robinson missed the ball in Zagreb, taking Croatia into the lead 2:0, making everyone laugh.

Goal keepers are the links on the pitch on which the team`s score depends on, because it is clear if they don`t defend something “impossible”, then the team lacks additional levy necessary for winning. Furthermore, if they take a goal which they should not have dreamt of taking, they throw the team off from a cliff.

Robinson and the Mole are still remembered

The freshest and most famous examples come from the world of football, and Croatia still remembers England`s David Robinson, who missed Gary Neville`s return ball, because he had a problem with a “mole hill” in front of the goal. Croatia took the lead 2:0 and the footage of his gaff still circles the world.

However, Robinson can make an excuse for his oversight, but goalkeepers you see in our attached video clips surely cannot.

An interesting scene. The player performs an out kick towards his team`s goal and the goalkeeper is trying to stop it, misses it and it enters the goal. Neutral bystanders laughed, just like the rival team and the fans, while others got a headache and did not feel like laughing.

Of course, this can happen to anyone. Even Croat Stipe Pletikosa took a goal as a young man at the 2000 EURO from the Netherlands from the pitch centre. However, he did not make mistakes after that, apart from the match against Malta. This means: he got his kicks before entering the football world.

Piplica also took one of the funniest goals of all time. He was waiting for a high ball, assessed it was an out, but it came down right on top of his head and got in the goal.

They are only human

Legendary Drazen Ladic shared the same fate. Everyone remembers Croatia`s match with Bosnia-Herzegovina and the goal when the ball went over his foot. He was cursed at and insulted, but he came back with master`s skills at the 1998 EURO in France. Unfortunately, his gaffs knocked out Croatia from the 2000 EURO in Belgium and the Netherlands. Not many could forget that sad night and 2:2 against Yugoslavia.

At least Ladic redeemed himself, but how can David James or Fabien Barthez clear their name? The two of them marked their career by lining several dreadful saves after a supreme one, they took goals in all sorts of ways, just when Manchester was realising its poorest results in the past 15 years. James` defences for England and Liverpool do not require introduction. Greek goalkeeper Mikopolidis, for instance, has many good saves, but he was often responsible for all the goals scored by the rival team.

There were all sorts of things in the world of football, so we should not be too hard on goalkeepers. The way the ball goes over a player`s foot when he missiles it towards the goal, the same way goalkeepers drop it from their hands. True, this dropping out business costs more, but they are only human, they will get it back somehow.

Watch the attached videos, they will make you laugh, but you will also be more lenient towards friends and colleagues the next time when you get on the local pitch and play football. You won`t dare criticise them, because if professionals make mistakes…
