Raich: The big favourite for Sljeme is Svindal, because he is such a strong ski racer and he showed that he can be constant all the season.

The greatest sports event in Zagreb would not be the greatest if there were not numerous surprises. The Atomic team, which includes Svindal, Raich, Hirscher, Berthod, Byggmark and Neurreuther, has prepared a treat for the media, gathered reporters in a special doubledecker and allowed interviews in a relaxed, casual atmosphere.

Raich and Scindal use Sljeme to warm up

First and second skiers of the World Cup are in this prestigious team, Svindal and Raich, but the biggest hope of men`s skiing in 19-year-old Hirscher Marcel. Everyone hopes he succeeds in Mount Sljeme, but Svindal and Raich aim for more.

- Val d`Iser is a big goal for me, it`s a good place, I won there… It will be big challenge. The big favourite for Sljeme is Svindal, because he is such a strong ski racer and he showed that he can be constant all the season and especially for a world title, that`s important, he`s really strong – Raich said, laughing to Svindal`s statement.

Even though they like joking in private, they were serious on the track. They have some problems with slalom, especially Svindal who did not win any points in two slalom races. The Norwegian is most happy that he made a successful comeback in October after a face injury.

- Slalom is not my best discipline, what can you do, you`re just gonna try your best and see what happens. Benni is little to close, he is always fast in the big classical slalom races. Don`t tell him, but he`s my favourite, or you can tell him and put some pressure on him – Svindal said, laughing, clearly at the top of his game. Still, as far as he is concerned, points in slalom are a great success.

Hat`s off to this happy and successful duo, but seeing how we are talking about the Sljeme slalom race, attention should be paid to the best skier of the Atomic team last year, Marc Berhod. The Swiss wants to improve his results this year, because he is currently 60 th in the World Cup, without a single point in slalom, which is supposed to be his discipline.

- Last year I had a good race here, so I hope I can do the same this year. It`s a nice race, a lot of people are there and I hope I can do my best – claims Marc Berthod, who thinks Raich is the best skier of his team.

The “prettiest skier of the World Cup” Jens Byggmark and hopeful Hirscher Marcel were also in the mood, who just want to finish both runs and head for new challenges with good results.

Although the lads are loveable and nice, and we can wish them all the luck to be closer to the top positions, we are backing up Ivica Kostelic, because he is the person who can make the Sljeme race perfect.
