2 crashes kill 7 Ontario teens

TORONTO, Jan. 4 (UPI) -- Two traffic accidents in Ontario, Canada, claimed the lives of seven teenagers, authorities said.

The Canadian Broadcasting Corp. reported four youths died in a three-vehicle crash Tuesday on Highway 69 north of Perry Sound.

Three others died of injuries sustained in a head-on collision on Highway 17 Tuesday near Hagar.

Several other people were hospitalized with serious injuries as a result of the mishaps, the CBC said.

Killed in the Perry Sound accident were Jessica Chamberland, 18, of Barrie, Alyssa McKeown, 17, of Barrie, Torry McIntyre-Courville, 18, of Sudbury, and Cole Howard, 19, of Sudbury.

Killed in the Hagar accident were Keegan Melville, 18, Zabrina Rekowski, 19, and Hillary Afelski, all of the Renfrew area.

Police said weather was not a factor in either accident.
