ATHENS, Greece, Feb. 8 (UPI) -- Three men found dead along a Greek highway appear to be Afghan immigrants who died of suffocation while traveling in the back of a truck, police said.

The bodies were discovered near Parga, a coastal resort in Epiros in northwestern Greece, the Athens Times reported.

Investigators said whoever left the bodies appeared to have tried to handle them with respect and to follow Islamic practice for disposal of the dead. The three men were wrapped in blankets.

The men appeared to have been passengers in a truck carrying a load of cottonseed.
