3 Muslims get jail for anti-gay leaflets

Text

DERBY, England, Feb. 11 (UPI) -- Three Muslims received sentences of up to two years in prison in England for handing out leaflets calling for the death penalty for homosexuality.

Ijaz Ali, 42, described as the ringleader, got the longest sentence at a hearing Friday in Derby, the Daily Star reported. Razwan Javed and Kabir Ahmed, both 28, got 15 months each.

The three were the first people to be convicted under a law that criminalizes efforts to stir up anti-homosexual sentiment.

The leaflets, which showed a hanging mannequin, were distributed before a Gay Pride march in Derby. They were handed out near a mosque and left in letterboxes and pushed under doors.
