Kandahar police chief General Sardar Mohammad Zazay told AFP that more people have died in hospital since the Wednesday evening attack on a wedding party, which relatives said was attended by members of an anti-Taliban militia.
Another 87 people were wounded in the attack, Zazay said, carried out in a part of Kandahar province where US-led troops are massing to drive insurgents from their fiefdom.
Kandahar is the focus of a massive build-up by US-led military forces trying to drive the Taliban from their homeland and end their bloody insurgency, which began after the 2001 US-led invasion brought down their hardline regime.
