Alert level raised for Israeli embassies

Text

JERUSALEM, Jan. 24 (UPI) -- The alert level was raised after several Israeli embassies and consulates received envelopes indicating they contained anthrax, the Foreign Ministry said.

The white powder found inside the envelopes sent to Israeli embassies and consulates in the United States and Europe turned out to be harmless, Ynetnews.com reported Tuesday.

In Boston, the Israeli consulate was evacuated and closed for several hours after it received an envelope marked "anthrax."

Anthrax marked envelopes also turned up in New York, at The Hague in the Netherlands and Brussels.

Two years ago the Israeli Embassy in Washington received an envelope containing white powder that was later found to be baking flour.
