Costa Cruises: We are very sorry and deeply saddened
Text
The man who stabbed former Swedish Foreign Minister Anna Lindh to death in 2003 has withdrawn his appeal.
Mijailo Mijailovic applied in 2005 to be moved to Serbia, saying he had received threats in prison. His parents were from Serbia, though he was born in Sweden.
"We have withdrawn the appeal," Mikael Nilsson, Mijailovic's lawyer said. "He doesn't think he has any chance to move to Serbia."
In February, Sweden's Prison and Probation Service rejected Mijailovic's transfer on the grounds that Serbian authorities could not say what Mijailovic's sentence might be commuted to in Serbia. Mijailovic appealed.
Lindh's murder in a department store in central Stockholm shocked a nation still haunted by the shooting of Prime Minister Olof Palme in 1986. The 46-year-old mother of two had been widely tipped to become prime minister.
