 Check-in staff at Argentina's biggest airline were on strike for a third day on Tuesday, calling for extra security after two disgruntled passengers attacked workers during the weekend.

The strike by workers at Aerolineas Argentinas grounded all the airline's domestic flights, causing long lines and angering thousands of travelers who already have seen flights canceled due to fog in the capital, Buenos Aires, in recent days.

Members of the Association of Aeronautic Personnel (APA), who also include staff at the Austral domestic airline, began the walkout on Sunday after a fight broke out between two workers at the city's airport and two passengers frustrated by fog-related delays.

"We won't follow orders to go back to work until the companies carry out a plan to improve the security of workers," APA secretary Pablo Dolagaratz told state news agency Telam.

Other airlines, such as Lan Argentina -- the local branch of Lan Airlines -- were not affected by the strike at Buenos Aires' Jorge Newbery Airport.

Aerolineas Argentinas' international flights were not affected by the strike, a company spokesman said.

Aerolineas Argentinas is controlled by the Spanish tourism group Marsans.
