 An armed man hijacked a bus in Bulgaria on Tuesday that had about 45 people on board, police said.

The 33-year-old man forced the bus driver to stop at a gas station near the town of Lovech, some 125 km east of the capital Sofia, and demanded meetings with journalists and police officers, police said in a statement.

He also said there was a bomb planted in the vehicle's luggage compartment.

The head of the Lovech regional police said no passengers were injured.

The bus was travelling from Sofia to the Black Sea city of Varna.
