The embittered Batista is seeking 1.5 million dollars in damages because he donated his kidney to his wife who cheated on him.
Dr. Richard Batista, 49, from Long Island, cannot get over from his painful divorce, The Telegraph reports.
The man asked of his ex-wife to return the kidney he donated her in 2001, that is, to pay him 1.5 million dollars in damages because he saved her life.
- In theory we are asking for the return of the kidney. Of course, he wouldn't really ask for that, but the value of it – Batista’s lawyer Dominic Barbara said.
The 49-year-old man, who works for the Nassau Medical Centre, says his wife broke his heart when she cheated on him.
- There's no deeper pain you can ever express than to be betrayed by the person you devoted your life to. I saved her life but the pain is unbearable – Batista said.
The couple married in 1990 and they have three daughters. In 2001 his wife became ill and Batista decided to give one of his kidneys to her.
- She was my wife. My first priority was to save her life – he said.
But soon their marriage began falling apart and they began divorce proceedings in 2005.
