Last week, four-year-old Darcy Freeman was thrown off a 58-metre bridge in Melbourne by her father. She died several hours later, Australia’s News reports.
That day Darcy was supposed to start preschool, but her father, Arthur Freeman, stopped the car on the bridge and threw her off it. The tragedy even shocked Australia’s Prime Minister Kevin Rudd. He proposed Children’s Week should be observed in the state of Victoria.
- This tragedy, I think, has been gut wrenching for the entire nation – the prime minister said.
The father was charged for murder and psychiatrists established that he was in a state of diminished capacity when he committed the act. But the motive of this tragedy has never been revealed.
It is suspected that the father was crushed because of a long battle for custody. The mother warned parents to pay special attention to their children if they are having problems in their marriages.
