Bankrupt Saab selling off museum contents

Text

TROLLHATTEN, Sweden, Jan. 18 (UPI) -- Buyers have a last chance this week to bid on classic Saabs from the bankrupt Swedish car company's museum.

Bidding on the cars closes Friday, The Local reported. Saab, which filed for bankruptcy in December, decided to sell the contents of its museum online after failing to find a buyer for the entire collection.

There are 131 cars up for grabs, ranging from the 1946 "Ur-Saaben," the first Saab ever produced, to modern prototypes. A solitary caravan or recreational trailer is also being sold.

Peter Backstrom, director of the museum in Trollhatten, said the collection is now closed except to serious bidders. The cars can be viewed online.

Not all of the cars are drivable, at least on public roads in Sweden.

The stars of the collection include a blue and yellow 1960 racing Saab and a 1981 Turbo 900 "Silver Beast" custom-equipped for the fictional British agent James Bond with bullet-proof windows and tires, tear-gas ducts and a "SAAB 007" license plate.
