The great-great-grandson of Germany's Iron Chancellor Otto von Bismarck has been found dead in his central London apartment.
They said the body of Gottfried Alexander Leopold Graf von Bismarck-Schoenhausen, 44, was found in his Chelsea flat on Monday.
"It is a case of sudden death. Next of kin have been informed. A post mortem is due to take place today," a spokesman for London's Metropolitan Police said.
Bismarck, a well-known figure on London's social scene, was no stranger to controversy.
In 1986, while studying at Oxford University, Olivia Channon, the 22-year-old daughter of a senior government minister, was found dead in his room of a heroin overdose.
And last year a man plunged to his death from Bismarck's penthouse flat after what the coroner described as a gay orgy.
