SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic, Feb. 5 (UPI) -- A boat capsized off the Dominican Republic coast Saturday, killing at least nine people and leaving dozens more missing, authorities said.

Police officials said 15 people were rescued after the boat, carrying about 70 people, overturned in Samana Bay off the island's northeast coast while traveling to Puerto Rico, El Caribe reported.

Miami's WPLG-TV reported the U.S Coast Guard was assisting in the effort to locate more survivors.
