A division of Bosnia to four federal units could lead to new conflict situations, Komsic warned.
A member of Bosnia’s three-member Presidency, Zeljko Komsic, said in an interview for the Dnevni list daily that an establishment of a Croat entity in Bosnia-Herzegovina, which is being announced by arrangement of the three political leaders in the country, would cause new conflicts.
- I think that such a political idea would lead to new conflict situations. Perhaps Mostar is the best example of that. Let’s say you fall under a federal unit with the Croat majority. Are you sure Bosniaks and the remaining Serbs will accept that? – Komsic said in the interview.
He added that “this example best showed the absurdity and danger of drawing new lines”.
Commenting on the arrangement of Bosnia-Herzegovina into four federal units instead of the current two entities, reached by presidents of the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ), Dragan Covic, Party of Democratic Action (SDA), Sulejman Tihic, and president of the Alliance of Independent Social-Democrats (SNSD), Milorad Dodik, Komsic, who is a member of the Bosnian social democrats, said that he believed the arrangement would remain “a dead letter”. He added that international diplomats did not believe in this arrangement either, but they do not want to publicly say so.
