Bulgaria Seizes 27 Kg Of Heroin

Bulgarian customs officers seized 27 kg of heroin estimated to be worth $1.68 million hidden in a car travelling from Turkey to Croatia.

Customs officers at the Balkan country's border checkpoint with Turkey found 51 packages of the drugs in the car, driven by a 57-year-old Croatian.

The new European Union country is on the crossroads between Asia and Europe is has long served as a gateway for smugglers trafficking goods and drugs to western Europe.

As an outer border country of the 27-member bloc, Sofia has tightened border controls and has vowed to fight organised crime and corruption.
