Candymaker pulls racist product

Text

STOCKHOLM, Sweden, Sept. 20 (UPI) -- Fazer, a Finnish candymaker, is pulling its Kinapuffar confection off the market in Sweden after complaints the product is racist.

Kinapuffar, which translates to Chinese pops, are a chocolate covered candy wrapped in packaging that features a bright yellow Asian face with red-pointed rice hat, The Local reported Tuesday.

The confectionery giant said it plans to change the packaging after a column in the Swedish newspaper Helsinborgs Dagblad drew attention to the caricature.

The column said "to joke and laugh at Asians seems to be the only racism which can pass by unremarked."
