Car bomb kills five in Basra, Iraq

BASRA, Iraq, June 13 (UPI) -- A suicide bomber drove an explosives-laden vehicle into a building in Basra, Iraq, Monday, killing five people, including three police officers, officials said.

The blast near the former headquarters of Basra province targeted a police emergency battalion, Aswat al-Iraq reported.

Twenty-nine people, mostly police officers, were injured, officials said.

The car blew up as the driver rammed it into a building, Kuwaiti news agency KUNA reported.

Several nearby cars and buildings were damaged, police said.

KUNA reported two people died and 10 others were injured Sunday when when two bombs exploded during a soccer match in southern Baghdad.
