JINZHOU, China, Feb. 5 (UPI) -- A shipwreck on a tributary of Dongting Lake in China killed seven people and left four others missing, authorities said Sunday.

The capsizing of the 1,500-ton sand carrier occurred in high winds in Hunan province, authorities in neighboring Hubei province said.

Government officials in Jinzhou said in a statement there were 17 people aboard the ship when it sank Thursday, Xinhua reported. Seven were confirmed dead, including the captain, his wife and their 8-year-old daughter. Six were rescued and four remained were unaccounted for, the state-run news agency said.
