Chinese Woman Charged With Selling 118 Children

The family bought babies in the province of Guangxi and sold them in the Henan, Hubei and Anhui provinces, a Shanghai daily writes.

Police in central China arrested a woman suspected of having sold several dozens female children across the entire country in a period of more than four years, national media reported on Tuesday.

According to the authorities, Ji Xiulan sold 118 babies in the town of Yongcheng in the Henan province with the help of her husband, son and his wife in 2003, Shanghai Daily reported, citing local papers.

The case was uncovered in March 2003 when the car in which the woman was transporting 13 babies to Henan broke down.

Their car broke down and they left four babies in a nearby field and left to repair the car. The residents found the babies and reported the case.

The woman’s son and his wife were arrested, but Ji was on the run until June 8 when she was arrested.
