KABUL, Afghanistan, Dec. 28 (UPI) -- Afghan security forces and coalition troops captured a Taliban leader in the Nahr-e Saraj district of Helmand province Wednesday, military officials said.

The unidentified leader is believed to have conducted roadside bomb attacks in the province, the International Security Assistance Force said in a release.

Another suspected insurgent was detained, the ISAF said.

Combined forces also captured several suspected insurgents in the Gardez district of Paktia province while searching for a Taliban leader who reportedly coordinates attacks against Afghan forces in the district, military officials said.

Afghan and coalition security forces also found and destroyed 660 pounds of opium in Kandahar province, the ISAF said.
