Del Ponte To Serbia: Extradite Karadzic And Mladic

Text

The chief Hague prosecutor called upon Serbia whilst visiting Srebrenica to fulfil their obligation towards the Tribunal.

The chief Hague prosecutor Carla del Ponte called, whilst in Potocari, Bosnia, Serbia to fulfil their obligations to Hague tribunal, and extradite the accused Radovan Karadzic and Ratko Mladic.

Del Ponte said this to the press leading up to the start of the ceremony for marking the 12th anniversary of the tragedy in Srebrenica, at the memorial centre Potocari, near Srebrenica.

She warned that Serbia must extradite Karadzic and Mladic by the end of the year, until the end of her duties as chief prosecutor. She then stressed a number of times that it is time that Karadzic and Mladic go to the Hague.

Carla del Ponte’s stay in Potocari was accompanied by strong measures of security. Bodyguards were constantly around her denying any access to her by the press.

Two days ago, the Women’s Association of Srebrenica, which gathers female victims of the tragedy in Srebrenica, criticized that Carla del Ponte will attend the ceremony marking the 12th anniversary of the massacre in Srebrenica. The women of Srebrenica resent that Del Ponte has failed their expectations, because Karadzic and Mladic, who are responsible for the deaths in Srebrenica, are still not in the Hague.
