Dutch Trains Crash, No Injuries - Police

The cause of the accident, which took place at about 1100 a.m. (0900 GMT), is not yet known, a police spokesman said.

A Thalys international train clipped a Dutch intercity train on an adjoining track at Gouda station in the Netherlands on Saturday, but no passengers were injured, Dutch police said.

Dutch media reports initially said an unknown number of passengers were slightly hurt in the crash, but Dutch national police later said this was not the case.

The cause of the accident, which took place at about 1100 a.m. (0900 GMT), is not yet known, a police spokesman said.

"The railway police will start the investigation as soon as they can get to the trains. The trains are not yet stable," he said, adding that parts of both trains had been derailed.

The Thalys, which was travelling from Paris to Amsterdam, and the intercity train brushed against each other as they passed, a spokeswoman for Dutch rail operator NS said.

She also said the Thalys does not normally travel via Gouda, but had been diverted through the station due to maintenance works on the railway near the Dutch city of Delft.
