The House of European History will open in Brussels in 2014, and will be "a place in which the European idea comes alive", said a brochure advertising the new musuem.
"It will be a very modest, very cheap project. There is not enough awareness among young people on what Europe is and how it's developed," Spanish socialist MEP Miguel Angel Martinez Martinez said.
The exhibition will aim to illustrate both the diversity of the history of Europe and the commonality of its roots, said the brochure.
Exhibits will range from ancient trading routes, the World Wars of the 20th century and Bulgaria and Romania joining the EU in 2007.
