EU to Restart Direct Aid to Palestinians

The European Union will restart direct aid to the Palestinians as part of efforts to support President Mahmoud Abbas's emergency cabinet.

The European Union will restart direct aid to the Palestinians as part of efforts to support President Mahmoud Abbas's emergency cabinet, EU foreign policy chief Javier Solana said on Monday.

"There will be part of the money that will be direct," Solana, arriving for a meeting of EU foreign ministers, told reporters when asked if the EU would end an aid embargo imposed when militant Islamist group Hamas came to power in March 2006.

He did not say when the aid would restart.
