TEL AVIV, Israel, Jan. 5 (UPI) -- Former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert was charged with receiving bribes from developers in exchange for support of a construction project, officials said.

Tel Aviv district prosecutors charged the former leader with receiving bribes in the so-called Holyland affair Thursday, The Jerusalem Post reported.

Prosecutors also filed charges against Olmert's bureau chief Shula Zaken and former Jerusalem Mayor Uri Lupolianski.

Eighteen people, including Olmert, were indicted Thursday for allegedly giving or receiving bribes to advance real estate ventures, including the Holyland luxury housing project, Haaretz said.

Olmert was questioned three times during the summer of 2010 on suspicions he accepted bribes from real estate developers in exchange for supporting the construction project in southern Jerusalem.

He has denied any wrongdoing.
