Family sentenced for torturing general
They woman and three boys were sentenced to prison for beating and torturing the 52-year-old man.
The four were accused of using rope, locks, sticks and a meat cleaver to get Brig. Gen. Nuon Pak to sell an $80,000 property and give them the money, the Phnom Penh Post reported Tuesday.
Judge Heang Sopheak sentenced Nuon Pak's wife to eight years in prison and each of the sons to a seven-year term.
The general, an adviser to the Ministry of National Defense, had a change of heart after the trial began and told the court he had forgiven his family for what they had done to him.
"I have already withdrawn my criminal lawsuit against my beloved wife and sons but the court has not considered it and still convicted them to jail," Nuon Pak said. "I was very disappointed and hopeless with this court's decision."
He offered to commit suicide in exchange for their freedom, the newspaper said.
