An 11-month-old baby died of dehydration on Thursday near Louvain, 30 kilometres East of Brussels, after being forgotten inside a car for the whole day by her father, Flemish Het Laatste Nieuws writes Monday.
The baby`s father, an engineer, left for work and forgot to drop off baby Britt at the manger, the daily writes. A Louvain court spokesperson confirmed the information Monday.
The baby was left in the car with tinted windows all day long, while it was 21 degrees Celsius outside. The little girl died of dehydration and heat, the paper writes.
“Not neglect but a horrible accident”
The baby`s mother was the person who discovered the baby. Before she would pick up the baby from the manger, she used to get the baby seat from her husband`s car, parked at the Haasrode industrial zone.
At 17 hours, she discovered the lifeless body in the back seat, when it was too late for the paramedics to reanimate her.
Doctor Luc Beaucourt told the Het Laatste Nieuws that a car left in the sun becomes scorched. Lack of water combined with the heat is fatal.
The court is not planning to raise charges against the parents, claiming that neglect was not in question, but a horrible accident, Philippe Fontaine, a judge`s assistant explained.
