The passenger train carrying around 500 people from the northern city of Thessaloniki to Athens hit the loose carriages in the early hours of Monday morning about 200 km (125 miles) north of the Greek capital, the National Rail Company (OSE) said in a statement.
Emergency services took more than two hours to free the train driver from the wreckage, an OSE official said. The injured were taken to a nearby hospital but their condition was not serious, he added.
