Due to possible terrorist attacks, Barack Obama will have unprecedented security at his inauguration. Two million people are expected.
Some two million people are expected to turn up in the streets of Washington on the day of the presidential inauguration of the first African American president, together with a huge security detail that will investigate any possible threat to Barack Obama’s security.
Security officials have said they have received no reports that would indicate the presence of any terrorist threat at the inauguration.
But, they still see the event as a potential attack target because it is very symbolic, it is very accessible and many VIP guests will attend the event.
The security officials see the worst threat in “lone wolves”, improvised bombs, and suicide bombers.
The huge crowds could also cause problems, so many streets and bridges will be closed for the occasion.
If we’re lucky, we will make it home by midnight the next day, after the bridges towards Virginia are reopened. It will be a long 24 hours, which is why I will have my Nintendo Wii with me, one of the organisers of the inauguration said.
