French and British Sign Friendship Agreement

Text

On 8.4.1904 France’s Third Republic and the United Kingdon of Great Britain and Ireland signed the “Entente Cordiale”.

A number of accords called “Entente Cordiale” before signing was used as an expression of joint interests of France and the United Kingdom. It is usually translated as “friendship agreement”.

The agreement was signed by Lord Lansdowne and French Ambassador Paul Cambon. The agreement resolved disputes on the influence and control in some countries of mutual interest, such as Egypt, Morocco, Madagascar, Thailand and others. The agreement also established free passage through the Suez Channel.
