Germany\'s Foreign Ministry said on Wednesday it could not confirm a kidnapped German journalist and his Afghan translator had been freed.
Martin Jaeger, a spokesman for the Foreign Ministry in Berlin, said: "I cannot confirm that the Stern magazine reporter Christoph Reuter, who has been missing since last night, is free." He said the information from Afghanistan was unclear.
Earlier on Wednesday, Kunar governor Shalizi Deedar told Reuters the pair had been freed and that no ransom was paid. They were abducted from a house late on Tuesday night in Saangar district of the eastern province of Kunar.
