Granny Who Hid Anne Frank Turns 100

Text

After Anne Frank was taken away, Miep Gies gathered her notes are put them away. She handed them over to Anne`s father.

Miep Gies is 100 years old today. She will celebrate her birthday quietly, with family members and friends. This would be just another birthday of a Dutch granny, if it were not the woman who helped hide Anne Frank and who kept her diary until it was published, the world media report.-.--.-

Still, humble granny Gies thinks she should not get the attention and that others have done much more to protect Dutch Jews. She singled out her husband Jan, because he bravely defied Nazis.

- He was a resistance man who said nothing but did a lot. During the war he refused to say anything about his work, only that he might not come back one night. People like him existed in thousands but were never heard – Gies told the BBC.

After Anne Frank was taken away and died in a concentration camp, Gies collected all the papers of her diary and put them away for safe keeping. She then returned the diary to Anne`s father Otto, while the book was published in 1947.
